Wayne Hightower Distinguished Professorship in the Medical Sciences at the [University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston](/source/University_of_Texas_Health_Science_Center_at_Houston) (UTHealth) before becoming the center's medical school dean.

==Biography==
After growing up in [New York City](/source/New_York_City), Schultz completed his undergraduate studies at [Columbia University](/source/Columbia_University) and attended [New York University School of Medicine](/source/New_York_University_School_of_Medicine).<ref name=APS/> After postgraduate work at [Harvard Medical School](/source/Harvard_Medical_School) and military service at the School of Aerospace Medicine at [Brooks Air Force Base](/source/Brooks_Air_Force_Base), Schultz took faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and the [University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine](/source/University_of_Pittsburgh_School_of_Medicine).<ref name=UTH/>

He joined the physiology faculty at the [University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston](/source/University_of_Texas_Health_Science_Center_at_Houston) in 1979, and he held the school's Fondren Family Chair in Cellular Signaling and the H.
