# Stan Dellar

**Stanley James Dellar** (29 November 1936 – 11 April 2015) was an Australian politician who served as a [Labor Party](/source/Australian_Labor_Party_(Western_Australian_Branch)) member of the [Legislative Council](/source/Western_Australian_Legislative_Council) of [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia) from 1971 to 1977, representing [Lower North Province](/source/Lower_North_Province).

Dellar was born in [Kalgoorlie](/source/Kalgoorlie) to Gladys Jean (née McDonald) and [David Peter Dellar](/source/David_Dellar). His father was also a member of parliament. Dellar attended [Eastern Goldfields High School](/source/Eastern_Goldfields_College), and after leaving began working as a clerk for the [Kalgoorlie Road Board](/source/Shire_of_Boulder). He later worked as a clerk for local government bodies in [Bridgetown](/source/Shire_of_Bridgetown-Greenbushes) (1959 to 1963), [Carnarvon](/source/Shire_of_Carnarvon) (1964 to 1967), and [Exmouth](/source/Shire_of_Exmouth) (1967 to 1970). Dellar entered parliament at the [1971 state election](/source/1971_Western_Australian_state_election), defeating [George Brand](/source/George_Brand_(politician)) of the [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Australia_(Western_Australian_Division)) by just four votes. He served a single six-year term before losing his seat to [Norman Moore](/source/Norman_Moore_(politician)) at the [1977 election](/source/1977_Western_Australian_state_election). Dellar worked as a truck driver after leaving politics, and served on the [Exmouth Shire Council](/source/Shire_of_Exmouth) from 1979 to 1982. His niece, [Melissa Price](/source/Melissa_Price_(politician)), is a member of federal parliament.[1]

He died in Exmouth in April 2015, aged 78.
