# Stan Cullimore

**Ian Peter Cullimore** is an English musician and journalist. He played guitar, between 1983 and 1988, for the Hull-based [indie rock](/source/Indie_rock) band [the Housemartins](/source/The_Housemartins).

## Early life

He was born in [Stapleford, Cambridgeshire](/source/Stapleford,_Cambridgeshire). He moved to Birmingham, where he went to school at [King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys](/source/King_Edward_VI_Camp_Hill_School_for_Boys), a state [grammar school](/source/Grammar_school). He studied [Maths](/source/Maths) at the [University of Hull](/source/University_of_Hull) from 1980, graduating in 1984.[citation needed]

## Career

### Music

Cullimore responded to a local newspaper advertisement by the Housemartins singer [Paul Heaton](/source/Paul_Heaton) seeking musicians in 1983. Most of the band's songs were written by Heaton and Cullimore. After leaving the band, Cullimore ran a [whole food](/source/Whole_food) shop for about five years.

### Journalism and writing

Cullimore went on to become a journalist and the author of many children's books.[citation needed] He has written for publications such as the *[Hull Daily Mail](/source/Hull_Daily_Mail)* and the *[Bristol Post](/source/Bristol_Post)*.[citation needed]

He began working as a journalist in 2014 and wrote a column in a local Bristol paper.[1] Alongside this he has been working with AuthorsAbroad,[2] teaching young children creative writing and music.
