The '''Stable Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League''' ('''Stable AFPFL''') was a [political party](/source/political_party) in [Burma](/source/Myanmar).

==History==
The party was formed in June 1958 when the [Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League](/source/Anti-Fascist_People's_Freedom_League) (AFPFL) split in two following internal disputes that had intensified since its January congress;<ref name=PP>Haruhiro Fukui (1985) ''Political parties of Asia and the Pacific'', Greenwood Press, p115</ref> One group was led by [Prime Minister](/source/Prime_Minister_of_Burma) [U Nu](/source/U_Nu), which he named the "[Clean AFPFL](/source/Union_Party_(Burma))"; the other was led by [Kyaw Nyein](/source/Kyaw_Nyein) and [Ba Swe](/source/Ba_Swe) and became known as the Stable AFPFL. Although the Stable faction was supported by the larger group of AFPFL members in the [Chamber of Deputies](/source/Chamber_of_Deputies_(Burma)), U Nu was able to continue as Prime Minister due to support from the [National United Front](/source/National_United_Front) and some of the independent MPs.<ref name=PP/> However, the dispute between the two factions continued to worsen and in September 1958 the Army brokered a compromise, taking power with a government headed by [Ne Win](/source/Ne_Win) until elections were held eighteen months later.<ref name=PP/>

In the [1960 elections](/source/1960_Burmese_general_election) the party put forward 202 candidates and received 31% of the vote, winning 41 of the 250 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 29 of the 125 seats in the [Chamber of Nationalities](/source/Chamber_of_Nationalities); the Clean AFPFL won 158 Chamber of Deputies seats and 53 Chamber of Nationalities seats,<ref>Dieter Nohlen, Florian Grotz & Christof Hartmann (2001) Elections in Asia: A data handbook, Volume I, pp614–616 {{ISBN|0-19-924958-X}}</ref> allowing U Nu to return as Prime Minister.

In 1962 U Nu's government was overthrown by a [military coup](/source/1962_Burmese_coup_d'%C3%A9tat) led by Ne Win. The leadership of the Stable AFPFL refused to co-operate with the [military government](/source/Burma_Socialist_Programme_Party), and the party was dissolved.<ref>Fukui, p150</ref>
