# St Alphage House

**St Alphage House** was a 1960s office block on [Fore Street](/source/Fore_Street,_London) in the [City of London](/source/City_of_London). It was built by the developer [Maurice Wingate](/source/Maurice_Wingate) to a design by [Maurice Sanders Associates](/source/Maurice_Sanders_Associates).[1] It was named after [Saint Alphege](/source/%C3%86lfheah_of_Canterbury) and the church of [St Alphage London Wall](/source/St_Alphage_London_Wall), whose ruins stand below where the building stood. It was built as part of the redevelopment of [London Wall](/source/London_Wall), and was one of a series of similar blocks built between 1957 and 1976.

In 2009, it was announced that the building was to be "stripped out" by the [City of London Corporation](/source/City_of_London_Corporation) for tax reasons.[2]

The site was proposed for redevelopment on numerous occasions[3] and was eventually demolished from 2013 onwards.[4]
