# Springwell Community College

**Springwell Community College** (formerly Springwell Community School) is a [coeducational](/source/Mixed-sex_education) [secondary school](/source/Secondary_school) located in [Staveley](/source/Staveley,_Derbyshire), [Derbyshire](/source/Derbyshire), England.

It is a [comprehensive school](/source/Comprehensive_school) taking pupils from Staveley, [Inkersall](/source/Inkersall), [Brimington](/source/Brimington), [Hollingwood](/source/Hollingwood), [Barrow Hill](/source/Barrow_Hill,_Derbyshire), and other primary schools in the Staveley-Brimington area.[1]

## History

Springwell Community School was formed in 1991 by the amalgamation of two secondary schools, Westwood (which was located in nearby Brimington and Hollingwood) and Middlecroft following a reorganisation of education in [Chesterfield](/source/Chesterfield,_Derbyshire). The school was formerly housed in the old Middlecroft School 1960's building.[2] It achieved Specialist Status as an [Arts College](/source/Arts_College_(United_Kingdom_specialist_schools_programme)) in September 2005. In November 2010 the school relocated to new buildings as part of the [Building Schools for the Future](/source/Building_Schools_for_the_Future) programme. The school was renamed Springwell Community College at this time.

In 2014 the school joined a consortium with [The Bolsover School](/source/The_Bolsover_School), [Heritage High School](/source/Heritage_High_School,_Clowne) and [Shirebrook Academy](/source/Shirebrook_Academy) to form 'Aspire Sixth Form', a [sixth form](/source/Sixth_form) provision that operated across all the school sites.[3] However Aspire Sixth Form closed in 2016 due to low pupil numbers.[4]

Previously a [community school](/source/Community_school_(England_and_Wales)) administered by [Derbyshire County Council](/source/Derbyshire_County_Council), in March 2020 Springwell Community College converted to [academy status](/source/Academy_(English_school)). The school is now sponsored by the Two Counties Trust.
