This article is about the video game. For the unrelated volleyball tournament, see [SpikeOut Tournament](/source/SpikeOut_Tournament).

***Spikeout: Digital Battle Online*** is a [3D](/source/3D_computer_graphics) [beat 'em up](/source/Beat_'em_up) [video game](/source/Video_game) developed by [Toshihiro Nagoshi](/source/Toshihiro_Nagoshi), and released by [Sega](/source/Sega) for their [Model 3 Step 2.1](/source/Sega_Model_3) [arcade system board](/source/Arcade_system_board) in [1998](/source/1998_in_video_gaming).[5] An update, *Spikeout: Final Edition*, was released in [1999](/source/1999_in_video_gaming).

A follow-up, *Slashout*, which was a [slash 'em up](/source/Hack_and_slash) set in a medieval fantasy setting, was developed and released in [2000](/source/2000_in_video_gaming), also for [arcades](/source/Arcade_game). A spinoff, *Spikers Battle*, adding a [versus fighting](/source/Fighting_game) element, was developed and released in [2001](/source/2001_in_video_gaming), again for arcades. Another follow-up, *[Spikeout: Battle Street](/source/Spikeout%3A_Battle_Street)*, was developed by [Dimps](/source/Dimps) and released exclusively for the [Xbox](/source/Xbox_(console)) in [2005](/source/2005_in_video_gaming). A new port of *Spikeout: Final Edition* is included in the 2024 release of *[Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth](/source/Like_a_Dragon%3A_Infinite_Wealth)* and 2025's *[Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii](/source/Like_a_Dragon%3A_Pirate_Yakuza_in_Hawaii)*.[6][7]
