**Michael "Spider" Maxwell** is an American retired [gymnast](/source/Gymnast). He competed for [Penn State University](/source/Penn_State_University) and won the 1987 [Nissen Award](/source/Nissen_Award) (the "Heisman" of men's gymnastics).[1]

Maxwell graduated from [Woodward Academy](/source/Woodward_Academy) in 1983 and earned a full gymnastics scholarship to [Pennsylvania State University](/source/Pennsylvania_State_University). In 1987, Maxwell won the bronze medal at the [USA Gymnastics National Championships](/source/USA_Gymnastics_National_Championships).[2]
