# Speedwell, Kentucky

**Speedwell** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) located in [Madison County](/source/Madison_County,_Kentucky), [Kentucky](/source/Kentucky), United States. A post office was opened for the community in 1852, and closed in 1939.[2] It is located at the junction of [Kentucky Route 374](/source/Kentucky_Route_374) and [Kentucky Route 499](/source/Kentucky_Route_499).

The community is named for Congressman [John Speed Smith](/source/John_Speed_Smith).[2]

The [Viney Fork Baptist Church](/source/Viney_Fork_Baptist_Church) on the [National Register of Historic Places](/source/National_Register_of_Historic_Places) is located within the community.
