Motaung had left Orlando Pirates to go play professional soccer in the now defunct [North American Soccer League](/source/North_American_Soccer_League_(1968%E2%80%931984)) for a team called the [Atlanta Chiefs](/source/Atlanta_Chiefs). Upon returning home, he found a lot of infighting among the hierarchy at Pirates.
