The **International Socialist Network Sovintern**[1] (also known simply as the **Soviet International** or **Sovintern**) is a [political international](/source/Political_international) consisting of [communist](/source/Communism), [socialist](/source/Socialism) and [left-wing](/source/Left-wing) political parties and movements founded in [Moscow, Russia](/source/Moscow%2C_Russia) in 2026. It was initiated by [A Just Russia](/source/A_Just_Russia) and presented as an alternative platform for international left-wing cooperation outside existing organizations such as the [Socialist International](/source/Socialist_International).[2][3][4]

The organization describes itself as a network-based international movement promoting [socialism in the 21st century](/source/Socialism_of_the_21st_century), [anti-imperialism](/source/Anti-imperialism), and coordination among left-wing political forces.

## History

The Sovintern was inaugurated in Moscow, Russia, on 27 April 2026, and consists of over 15 member organisations.[5] The representatives met at the [House of the Trade Unions](/source/House_of_the_Trade_Unions). The meeting was promoted by [A Just Russia](/source/A_Just_Russia), a Russian party that presents itself as the left opposition to [Vladimir Putin](/source/Vladimir_Putin)'s [United Russia](/source/United_Russia). A Just Russia's leader, [Sergey Mironov](/source/Sergey_Mironov), addressed the participants on video.[2][5][6]

Speakers at the inaugural Sovintern event included: [Jackson Hinkle](/source/Jackson_Hinkle), Christopher Helali, former President of Bolivia [Evo Morales](/source/Evo_Morales),[5] Liu Xu, [Booker Ngesa Omole](/source/Booker_Omole), [Haz Al-Din](/source/Haz_Al-Din), Carlos Alfredo Castañeda Magaña, Alan García Fernández, Aleksandar Djenić, [George Galloway](/source/George_Galloway), [Vladimir Lysenko](/source/Vladimir_Lysenko), Pablo Salvador Sepúlveda Allende, Bojan Vulin, Bogdan Țîrdea, Juan Manuel De Jesús Flores Cornejo, Crispin Kabasele Tshimanga, Dimitrios Patelis, Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, Miguel Alexander Escobar, Akar Süleyman, Beatriz Bissio, Arling Alonso, [Héctor Béjar](/source/H%C3%A9ctor_B%C3%A9jar), Snoussi Dabbabi, Said Bakkali, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat,[7] Pawan Karki,[8] and Goran Dimov, among others.[7] A message from Russian president Putin was also read out during the event.[5]

## Positions

The Sovintern opposes "[Donald Trump's imperialism](/source/Foreign_policy_of_Donald_Trump_during_the_2024_presidential_election)" and the "[NATO war against Russia](/source/Military_aid_to_Ukraine_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War)".[2] It considers Western [social democracy](/source/Social_democracy) as promoted by the [Socialist International](/source/Socialist_International) to be subservient to [American militarism](/source/American_militarism).[2]

The organization has expressed support for [Cuba](/source/Cuba) and has called on [China](/source/China), [Russia](/source/Russia), and [BRICS](/source/BRICS) member states to assist the country during its economic and energy crisis.[9]
