# Southern Ohio Conference

The **Southern Ohio Conference (S.O.C.)** is an [athletic conference](/source/Athletic_conference) in [Ohio](/source/Ohio). The conference is also a member of the [Ohio High School Athletic Association](/source/Ohio_High_School_Athletic_Association), the governing body of Ohio athletics.[1] There are currently seventeen member schools in the conference. The S.O.C. includes teams from five different Ohio counties - [Jackson County (Oak Hill High School), Lawrence County](/source/Lawrence_County,_Ohio) ([St. Joe High School](/source/Saint_Joseph_Central_High_School_(Ironton,_Ohio)) and [Symmes Valley High School](/source/Symmes_Valley_High_School)), [Pike County](/source/Pike_County,_Ohio) ([Waverly High School](/source/Waverly_High_School_(Ohio)), [Eastern High School](/source/Eastern_High_School_(Beaver,_Ohio)), and [Western High School](/source/Western_High_School_(Latham,_Ohio))), and [Scioto County](/source/Scioto_County,_Ohio) ([Clay High School](/source/Clay_High_School_(Portsmouth,_Ohio)), [Green High School](/source/Green_High_School_(Franklin_Furnace,_Ohio)), [Glenwood High School](/source/Glenwood_High_School_(Ohio)), [Sciotoville Community School](/source/Sciotoville_Community_School), [Valley High School](/source/Valley_High_School_(Ohio)), Northwest High School, [Minford High School](/source/Minford_High_School), [Portsmouth West High School](/source/Portsmouth_West_High_School), [Notre Dame High School](/source/Notre_Dame_High_School_(Portsmouth,_Ohio)), [South Webster High School](/source/South_Webster_High_School), and [Wheelersburg High School](/source/Wheelersburg_High_School)).[2] Portsmouth High School will join the conference in 2027. The conference recognizes: baseball, boys' and girls' basketball, boys' and girls' [cross country](/source/Cross_country_running), football, boys' and girls' [soccer](/source/Soccer), fast pitch softball, boys' and girls' swimming, boys' and girls' tennis, boys' and girls' track and field athletics, and girls' volleyball.

- **Terri Boldman (Clay)** - Clay Coaches' Hall of Fame, one of only two S.O.C. coaches to lead girls' basketball team to OHSAA Final Four (1980)[31]
- **Ed Cable (Northwest)** - Recipient of the Ohio Sportsmanship, Ethics, & Integrity Softball Coaches' Award (2002)[10]

- **Carol Vice (Clay)** - Clay Coaches' Hall of Fame, Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2010);[37] Star on Portsmouth's Wall of Stars,[36] made it to the Final Four in softball 9 of 10 years as a coach, won three OHSAA state softball titles (1980, 81, & 83) while also finishing as runners-up twice (1979 & 1988), only softball coach from S.O.C. to win a softball title[31]
- **Norm Persin** - Oak Hill Basketball - voted National Basketball Coach of The Year in 2009.
