**South Brother** is a [mountain](/source/Mountain) located in [Piscataquis County](/source/Piscataquis_County,_Maine), [Maine](/source/Maine), in [Baxter State Park](/source/Baxter_State_Park). South Brother is flanked to the southwest by [Mount Coe](/source/Mount_Coe), and to the northeast by [North Brother](/source/North_Brother); collectively the two are called "The Brothers".[1]

South Brother stands within the [watershed](/source/Drainage_basin) of the [Penobscot River](/source/Penobscot_River), which drains into [Penobscot Bay](/source/Penobscot_Bay). The northeast and southeast sides of South Brother drain into a swampy area called "The Klondike", then into [Wassataquoik Stream](/source/Wassataquoik_Stream), and the [East Branch](/source/East_Branch_Penobscot_River) of the Penobscot River. The west sides of South Brother drain into Roaring Brook, Nesowadnehunk Stream, and the [West Branch](/source/West_Branch_Penobscot_River) of the Penobscot River.

The [Appalachian Trail](/source/Appalachian_Trail), a 2,170-mile (3,490-kilometre) [National Scenic Trail](/source/National_Scenic_Trail) from [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)) to [Maine](/source/Maine), reaches it northern terminus, [Mount Katahdin](/source/Mount_Katahdin), 5 miles (8 km) to the southeast of The Brothers.
