**Soto Monir** (born 27 May 1978)[1] is a [Bangladesh Awami League](/source/Bangladesh_Awami_League) politician and a former 2-time [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) member representing the [Tangail-2](/source/Tangail-2) constituency.[2] He was the joint secretary of Awami League's branch in [Germany](/source/Germany).[3][4]

## Career

Monir entered [student politics](/source/Student_activism) as a member of the [Chhatra League](/source/Bangladesh_Chhatra_League) in the early 1990s. However, he left Bangladesh in 1996 for [Moscow University](/source/Moscow_State_University) in [Russia](/source/Russia). He then moved to [Germany](/source/Germany), and served as the joint-secretary of the [Awami League](/source/Awami_League)'s branch of the central European country. He came back to Bangladesh during [2006-08 Bangladeshi political unrest](/source/2006%E2%80%932008_Bangladeshi_political_crisis).[3][4]

Monir was elected to [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) from the [Tangail-2](/source/Tangail-2) constituency as a [Awami League](/source/Awami_League) candidate at the [2018 Bangladeshi general election](/source/2018_Bangladeshi_general_election).[5] He was accused of [NID](/source/Identity_document) forgery, and [arms trafficking](/source/Arms_trafficking),[6] however the allegations were never proven and referred as "politically motivated conspiracy" by Monir's associates.[7]

Monir serves as the [joint-general secretary](/source/Secretary_(title)) of the [Tangail District](/source/Tangail_District) Awami League, he previously served as the secretary of science and technology of the Tangail district committee of the [Bangladesh Awami League](/source/Awami_League).[8] He is also the chairperson of Tangail's branch of the [Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation](/source/Bangladesh_Road_Transport_Workers_Federation).[9]

Monir was a member of the [Parliamentary Standing Committee](/source/Parliamentary_committees_of_Bangladesh) on the [Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock](/source/Ministry_of_Fisheries_and_Livestock_(Bangladesh)) in the [11th National Parliament](/source/List_of_members_of_the_11th_Jatiya_Sangsad) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).[10]

## Personal life

Monir is married to Oaishe Khan (Nishe),[11] the only daughter of [Shajahan Khan](/source/Shajahan_Khan), a former [shipping minister](/source/Ministry_of_Shipping_(Bangladesh)), current presidium member of the [Bangladesh Awami League](/source/Awami_League)[12] and the eight-time [Madaripur-2](/source/Madaripur-2) MP.[11]
