**Sotirios Alex Manolopoulos**[1] ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Σωτήρης Μανωλόπουλος; born June 27, 1970) is a Greek retired professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player and current basketball head coach, who is the head coach of Romanian side [Dinamo București](/source/CS_Dinamo_Bucure%C8%99ti_(basketball)). Born in [Athens](/source/Athens), he played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) at [Boston University](/source/Boston_University_Terriers_men's_basketball). After graduating, he returned to his native Greece, to play professional basketball. He had served as an assistant coach in several teams in the [Greek Basket League](/source/Greek_Basket_League), before he was appointed the [head coach](/source/Head_coach) of [Panathinaikos](/source/Panathinaikos_B.C.) in May 2015.

## Playing career

### College career

Manolopoulos played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) at [Boston University](/source/Boston_University), with the [Boston University Terriers](/source/Boston_University_Terriers_men's_basketball).[2] He was twice named to the America East Academic Honor Roll (1992, 1993).[3] He appeared in 58 games for the Terriers, from 1989 to 1993, averaging 3.6 [points](/source/Points_per_game), 1.1 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per game.[4][5][6][7]

### Professional career

Manolopoulos played professionally with [Papagou](/source/Papagou_B.C.), [Maroussi](/source/Maroussi_B.C.), and [Doukas](/source/A.C._Doukas_Basketball).[2] While playing with Maroussi, he won the [FIBA Saporta Cup](/source/FIBA_Saporta_Cup) [2000–01 season](/source/2000%E2%80%9301_FIBA_Saporta_Cup) championship.[8]

## Coaching career

Manolopoulos started his [coaching career](/source/Basketball_coach) as an assistant coach with [Peristeri](/source/Peristeri_B.C.), in 2004.[8][9] In the [2005–06 season](/source/2005%E2%80%9306_Greek_Basket_League), he was appointed the assistant coach of [Makedonikos](/source/Makedonikos_B.C.).[8] He moved to [Maroussi](/source/Maroussi_B.C.) for the [next season](/source/2006%E2%80%9307_Greek_Basket_League), with whom he stayed until 2011.[10] He was named [Aris'](/source/Aris_B.C.) assistant coach in 2011.[9] He was given the assistant coach job of [Panathinaikos](/source/Panathinaikos_B.C.), in 2012.[8] On May 4, 2015 he was appointed as [Panathinaikos](/source/Panathinaikos_B.C.)' [head coach](/source/Head_coach), after the removal of [Duško Ivanović](/source/Du%C5%A1ko_Ivanovi%C4%87) from the position.[11][12]

On 22 October 2015, he was appointed as an assistant coach for [AEK Athens](/source/AEK_B.C.).[13] On 18 December 2015, he was appointed as the head coach of [AEK Athens](/source/AEK_B.C.), after the removal of [Dragan Šakota](/source/Dragan_%C5%A0akota) from that same position, so that he could become the [general manager](/source/General_manager_(basketball)) of the team. On March 21, 2017, after the departure of head coach [Jure Zdovc](/source/Jure_Zdovc) from the club, Manolopoulos became the new head coach of the club, after signing a contract with them, through the year 2018.[14]
