# Song bells

**Song bells** are a [musical instrument](/source/Musical_instrument) in the [keyboard percussion](/source/Keyboard_percussion_instrument) family. They are a [mallet percussion](/source/Mallet_percussion) instrument in the [metallophone](/source/Metallophone) family that is essentially a cross between the [vibraphone](/source/Vibraphone), [glockenspiel](/source/Glockenspiel), and celesta. They have bars made of aluminum.[1]

They sound one [octave](/source/Octave) down from the glockenspiel, or one octave above [concert pitch](/source/Concert_pitch) and generally have a range of 2 1⁄2 octaves. Song bells have been made by various makers at different times but were first introduced by [J. C. Deagan, Inc.](/source/J._C._Deagan,_Inc.) in 1918 and manufactured by the company until 1924.[2][3]
