**Someshvara IV** ([IAST](/source/IAST): *Someśvara*; r. 1181–1189)[2] was the last king of the [Western Chalukya](/source/Western_Chalukya) empire. He made a brief attempt after 1189 to revive the Chalukya kingdom by defeating the waning [Kalachuri](/source/Kalachuris_of_Kalyani) kingdom. He managed to capture [Basavakalyana](/source/Basavakalyana) briefly but failed to prevent the other feudatories, the [Seuna](/source/Seuna), [Hoysala](/source/Hoysala) and the [Kakatiya dynasty](/source/Kakatiya_dynasty) from completely overwhelming the Chalukya empire by 1200. In the end, the three feudatories divided the vast area between the [Kaveri River](/source/Kaveri_River) and [Narmada River](/source/Narmada_River) amongst themselves.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

He maintained friendly relations with Ceylon and sent an ambassador there.[3] He made efforts to revive Chalukya dominance by defeating the declining Kalachuri kingdom[4] He was overthrown by a [Seuna Yadava](/source/Seuna_(Yadava)_dynasty) feudatory[5][6]
