The band was initially named Solution, and appended the "A.D." after discovering that another group with the same name already existed.<ref name=amg>[{{AllMusic|class=artist|id=p173278/biography|pure_url=yes}} Solution A.D.] at [Allmusic](/source/Allmusic)</ref> The group was noticed by [Live](/source/Live_(band)) guitarist [Chad Taylor](/source/Chad_Taylor_(guitarist)) at a performance at [CBGB](/source/CBGB), and he signed on to produce their debut EP, which was released in 1996.<ref name=amg/> The group issued a full-length album soon after on [Atlantic Records](/source/Atlantic_Records) and toured widely behind it.<ref name=amg/> The single "Fearless", taken from the full-length album, received airplay on [MTV](/source/MTV)<ref name=amg/> and reached No.&nbsp;33 on the [Billboard](/source/Billboard_magazine) Modern Rock charts in 1996; it was the group's only hit.<ref>[{{AllMusic|class=artist|id=p173278/charts-awards|pure_url=yes}} Billboard], [Allmusic](/source/Allmusic)</ref>
