# Solberg Inlet

**Solberg Inlet** ([68°19′S 65°15′W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=68_19_S_65_15_W)) is an ice-filled inlet 5 to 10 nautical miles (18 km) wide, which recedes west 14 nautical miles (26 km) between [Rock Pile Peaks](/source/Rock_Pile_Peaks) and [Joerg Peninsula](/source/Joerg_Peninsula), on the east coast of [Graham Land](/source/Graham_Land). Discovered by members of the [United States Antarctic Service](/source/United_States_Antarctic_Service) (USAS) in 1940, it was resighted in 1947 by the [Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition](/source/Ronne_Antarctic_Research_Expedition) (RARE) under Ronne, who named it for [Rear Admiral](/source/Rear_Admiral_(United_States)) [Thorvald A. Solberg](/source/Thorvald_A._Solberg), [U.S. Navy](/source/U.S._Navy), Chief of [Naval Research](/source/Office_of_Naval_Research), who was of assistance to the expedition.
