# Sohnreyia

***Sohnreyia*** is a [genus](/source/Genus) of five species of [flowering plants](/source/Flowering_plant) in the family [Rutaceae](/source/Rutaceae), native to [South America](/source/South_America) (within [Bolivia](/source/Bolivia), [Brazil](/source/Brazil), [Colombia](/source/Colombia), [Peru](/source/Peru) and [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela)).[2] They are all "palmoids" or Corner Model Trees (named after [E. J. H. Corner](/source/E._J._H._Corner), the first to describe this architectural growth form). As such they most commonly consist of a single, [pachycaul](/source/Pachycaul) trunk topped by a rosette of very large, pinnate leaves, and are usually [monocarpic](/source/Monocarpic). The genus was first described by [Kurt Krause](/source/Kurt_Krause) in 1914.[1] The genus name of *Sohnreyia* is in honour of [Heinrich Sohnrey](/source/Heinrich_Sohnrey) (1859–1948), a German teacher and writer.[3]
