**Soe Thu** (Burmese: *စိုးသူ*; só θù), born **Soe Thu Lwin** (Burmese: *စိုးသူလွင်*; só θù lʊ̃́ɰ̃; on 30 November 1965) is a [Myanmar Academy Award](/source/Myanmar_Academy_Award)-winning Burmese actor, singer and physician.[1][2][3][4] He has achieved fame and [success](/source/Success) as an actor and singer.[5][6][7][8][9] Throughout his career, he has produced 13 music [solo albums](/source/Solo_albums), and acted in over 200 films.[10][11][12][13]

## Early life and education

Soe Thu was born on 30 November 1965 in [Taungdwingyi](/source/Taungdwingyi), [Myanmar](/source/Myanmar) ([Burma](/source/Burma)) to parent Khin Maung Lwin, an [irrigation](/source/Irrigation) engineer, and Khin Thuzar, an attorney.[14][15][16][17] He graduated from the [University of Medicine 1, Yangon](/source/University_of_Medicine_1,_Yangon) in 1996.[18][19][20]

## Entertainment career

Soe Thu began his entertainment career when he was recruited by director Ni Win Tun to film *Nantha Lu Chein* and *Pan Bu Chain*.[21][22][23][24] He made his break in 1982 with the film *Maik Kyway Maik Pyit*.[25][26][27][28] In 1984, he released his first music album, *Achit Ye Hmattan*.[29][30][31] He subsequently retired from the [entertainment industry](/source/Entertainment_industry), [emigrating](/source/Emigration) to the United States in 2001.[32][33][34][35] He works at the [MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center](/source/MedStar_Southern_Maryland_Hospital_Center) and [MedStar Washington Hospital Center](/source/MedStar_Washington_Hospital_Center) in the United States as a [cardiologist](/source/Cardiologist).[32][36][37][38] He returned to [Myanmar](/source/Myanmar) by the end of September 2012 to care for his ailing mother.[39][40][41][42] Since then, he performed 3 solo shows in Yangon and Mandalay.[43][44][45] From 1983 to present, he has starred in over 200 films.[46][47][48][49]

## Personal life

Soe Thu was previously married to Khin Mya Mya Wutt Hmone Swe, with whom he has a daughter, Angel Soe Lwin.[32] He has been dating actress [Soe Myat Nandar](/source/Soe_Myat_Nandar) since 22 May 2013.[50]
