The **Social Liberal Movement** (**SLM**; [German](/source/German_language): *Sozial-Liberale Bewegung*, [French](/source/French_language): *Mouvement socio-libéral*, [Italian](/source/Italian_language): *Movimento social-liberale*) is a [social conservative](/source/Social_conservatism)[1] [party](/source/Political_party) in [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland).

The SLM was founded on 23 April 2011 by [Samuel Schmid](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Samuel_Schmid_(Aargau_politician)&action=edit&redlink=1),[2] a member of the [Grand Council of Aargau](/source/Grand_Council_of_Aargau) originally elected from the right-wing [Federal Democratic Union](/source/Federal_Democratic_Union_of_Switzerland). He was joined in June by [Ricardo Lumengo](/source/Ricardo_Lumengo), a member of the National Council originally elected from the centre-left [Social Democratic Party](/source/Social_Democratic_Party_of_Switzerland).

The SLM has branches in [Aargau](/source/Aargau), [Bern](/source/Canton_of_Bern) and [Zurich](/source/Canton_of_Zurich), and claims hundreds of members.[3] It won no seats in the [2011 federal election](/source/2011_Swiss_federal_election), but 0.5% of the vote in Aargau and 0.3% of the vote in Bern.
