Geologic formation in Russia

The **Sludkian [Gorizont](/source/Gorizont_(geology))** ("Sludkian Horizon") is a [Lower Triassic](/source/Lower_Triassic) [biostratigraphic](/source/Biostratigraphic) unit in Western [Russia](/source/Russia). The Sludkian Gorizont is a part of the [Vetlugian Supergorizont](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vetlugian_Supergorizont&action=edit&redlink=1) and corresponds to the middle part of the early [Olenekian](/source/Olenekian) stage, lying above the [Rybinskian Gorizont](/source/Rybinskian_Gorizont) and below the [Ustmylian Gorizont](/source/Ustmylian_Gorizont). The Sludkian and Ustmylian Gorizonts are together encompassed by the "*[Wetlugasaurus](/source/Wetlugasaurus)* fauna", named after a [capitosaur](/source/Capitosaur) amphibian [index fossil](/source/Index_fossil). The Sludkian is characterized by *Wetlugasaurus angustifrons*, while the Ustmylian is characterized by *Wetlugasaurus malachovi*.[1][2]

The Sludkian is exposed in several svitas (equivalent to [geological formations](/source/Geological_formations)) spread out over a wide area: the main assemblage is the **Sludkinskaya Svita** in the [Moscow Syncline](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Moscow_Syncline&action=edit&redlink=1), and another is the **Kzylsaiskaya Svita** of the [Ural](/source/Ural_(river))-[Samara](/source/Samara_(Volga)) Basin.[1]
