Skipness Castle

**Skipness** ([Scottish Gaelic](/source/Scottish_Gaelic_language): *Sgibinis*, pronounced [\[ˈs̪kʲipɪnɪʃ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Scottish_Gaelic)) is a village and [Quoad sacra](/source/Quoad_sacra) parish[1] on the east coast of [Kintyre](/source/Kintyre) in Scotland, located just over 7 miles (11 km) south of [Tarbert](/source/Tarbert%2C_Kintyre) and facing the [Isle of Arran](/source/Isle_of_Arran).

There is [Skipness Castle](/source/Skipness_Castle) (a ruined castle)[2] and [Kilbrannan Chapel](/source/St_Brendan's_Chapel%2C_Skipness), also known as St Brendan's Chapel.[3] Both the castle and the chapel date from the 13th century, and are maintained by [Historic Environment Scotland](/source/Historic_Environment_Scotland)[4] and are designated [scheduled monuments](/source/Scheduled_monument).[5]
