**Siri Rat** (also spelled **Siriraj**, [Thai](/source/Thai_language): ศิริราช) is one of the 180 sub-districts (*[khwaeng](/source/Khwaeng)*) of [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok), Thailand, covering the area around [Siriraj Hospital](/source/Siriraj_Hospital), located on the southern rim of [Khlong](/source/Khlong) (canal) [Bangkok Noi](/source/Bangkok_Noi_Canal) mouth to the western bank of the [Chao Phraya River](/source/Chao_Phraya_River) in [Bangkok Noi District](/source/Bangkok_Noi_District). It is also named for the road intersection of Thanon (Road) Arun Ammarin and Thanon Wang Lang at the front of the hospital.

The atmosphere of [street food](/source/Street_food_of_Thailand) stalls along Wang Lang Road, part of Wang Lang Market near Siriraj Hospital and Wang Lang Pier

The area is also included into [Rattanakosin Island](/source/Rattanakosin_Island) historical area as it used to be [Thon Buri](/source/Thon_Buri) downtown (formerly capital of [Thailand](/source/Thailand) around 1768-1782). The major features in Siri Rat are the [Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University](/source/Faculty_of_Medicine_Siriraj_Hospital%2C_Mahidol_University), the oldest government hospital and the largest medical institution of Thailand, [Wang Lang ladies market](/source/Wang_Lang_Market) and [Wat Rakhang](/source/Wat_Rakhang), *Temple of the Bell*, the major temple with many exquisite fine arts. Outside the area just the northern rim of Khlong Bangkok Noi, there is also the [National Museum of](/source/Royal_Barges_National_Museum) [Royal Barge](/source/Thailand's_Royal_Barge_Procession), where 8 important barges are preserved and displayed.

## Transportation

### Boat

[Wang Lang or Siri Rat Pier](/source/Wanglang_(Siri_Rat)_Pier) is the main pier for the area, consists of the ferry crossing-river boat service to [Tha Chang](/source/Tha_Chang_Pier) and [Tha Phra Chan](/source/Tha_Phra_Chan) piers to the [Grand Palace](/source/Grand_Palace), [Wat Phra Kaew](/source/Wat_Phra_Kaew) and [Sanam Luang](/source/Sanam_Luang); and the [Chao Phraya Express Boat](/source/Chao_Phraya_Express_Boat) Service to northern suburb at [Nonthaburi](/source/Nonthaburi_(city)) or Bangkok downtown at [Si Lom](/source/Si_Lom_subdistrict) and [Sathon](/source/Sathon). Nearby there is also another [Rotfai (Railway) Pier](/source/Tha_Rot_Fai) at the former [Thon Buri Railway Station](/source/Thon_Buri_Railway_Station) for the Chao Phraya Express Boat.

### Bus

There are several bus, public [tuk-tuk](/source/Tuk-tuk) or *[songthaew](/source/Songthaew)* (public passenger pick-up vehicles) services to [Taling Chan](/source/Taling_Chan), [Bangkok Yai](/source/Bangkok_Yai), [Charan Sanit Wong Road](/source/Charan_Sanit_Wong_Road) and [Pinklao](/source/Pinklao) neighbourhood, and also the river-crossing bus lines through [Phra Pinklao Bridge](/source/Phra_Pinklao_Bridge) to [Sanam Luang](/source/Sanam_Luang) and [Ratchadamnoen Road](/source/Ratchadamnoen_Road) at another river side.

### Railway

There is also [Bangkok Noi Railway Station](/source/Bangkok_Noi_Railway_Station) (or the former Thon Buri railway station), which used to be the southern railway terminal, and became the terminal station of the [Death Railway](/source/Thailand-Burma_Railway) to [Kanchanaburi](/source/Kanchanaburi) built by Japan during [World War II](/source/World_War_II).

## Electoral Constituency Delimitation

Unlike other areas of Bangkok Noi, in the [general elections of 2023](/source/2023_Thai_general_election) and [2026](/source/2026_Thai_general_election), Siri Rat was included in constituency 32 (while the other sub-districts of Bangkok Noi were in constituency 33) out of the 33 constituencies of Bangkok. Constituency 32 comprised Siri Rat; [Bangkok Yai](/source/Bangkok_Yai_District); [Hiran Ruchi](/source/Hiran_Ruchi), [Bang Yi Ruea](/source/Bang_Yi_Ruea), and [Wat Kanlaya](/source/Wat_Kanlaya) sub-districts of [Thon Buri](/source/Thon_Buri_district); [Pak Khlong Phasi Charoen](/source/Pak_Khlong_Phasi_Charoen), [Bang Waek](/source/Bang_Waek), [Bang Chak](/source/Bang_Chak%2C_Phasi_Charoen), and [Khuha Sawan](/source/Khuha_Sawan) sub-districts of [Phasi Charoen](/source/Phasi_Charoen); and [Bang Chueak Nang](/source/Bang_Chueak_Nang) sub-district of [Taling Chan](/source/Taling_Chan).[2]
