**Sirajganj-1** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). Since 6 August 2024, the constituency remains vacant. [Md. Salim Reza](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Md._Salim_Reza_(Sirajganj_politician)&action=edit&redlink=1) is the current member of Parliament.

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Kazipur Upazila](/source/Kazipur_Upazila) and four [union parishads](/source/Union_parishad) of [Sirajganj Sadar Upazila](/source/Sirajganj_Sadar_Upazila): Bagbati, Mechhra, Ratankandi, and Chhongachha.[2][3]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Pabna constituency when the former Pabna District was split into two districts: [Sirajganj](/source/Sirajganj_District) and [Pabna](/source/Pabna_District).[4]

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[5] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[6]

Ahead of the [2018 general election](/source/2018_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission expanded the boundaries of the constituency by adding one union parishad of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila: Bahuli.[7][2][8]

Ahead of the [2026 general election](/source/2026_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission decided to return the boundaries to how it was for the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election).[9]
