'''Sint Pancras''' ([West Frisian](/source/West_Frisian_(dialect)): ''Sundebankreas'') is a town in the northwestern [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands). It is located in the municipality of [Dijk en Waard](/source/Dijk_en_Waard), [North Holland](/source/North_Holland), about {{Convert|5|km|4=0|abbr=on}} northeast of [Alkmaar](/source/Alkmaar).

==History==
The village was founded in the 14th century, after the village of [Vronen](/source/Vronen) was destroyed by [John I, Count of Holland](/source/John_I%2C_Count_of_Holland), because [West Friesland](/source/West_Friesland_(historical_region)) had revolted against his rule in 1297. It was first mentioned in 1433 as Pancraets, and refers to [Pancras of Rome](/source/Pancras_of_Rome).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/sintpancras |title=Sint Pancras - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=29 April 2022 |language=nl}}</ref>

The Dutch Reformed church is a single aisled cruciform church from the 16th century. In 1604, the tower burnt down and a [lantern tower](/source/lantern_tower) was constructed as a replacement.<ref name="monument">{{cite news|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu11_01/sten009monu11_01_0153.php |title=Sint Pancras |author=Ronald Stenvert & Saskia van Ginkel-Meester |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |year=2006 |language=nl |access-date=29 April 2022}}</ref>

The ''[polder](/source/polder)'' mill A was built in 1663. It was one of ten wind mills to drain the excess water from the polder and the only one remaining. It became obsolete in 1926. In 2010, it was restored to working order, however the drainage canal had been filled up. In 2018, pipes were laid to allow the wind mill to operate again.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.molendatabase.nl/nederland/molen.php?nummer=721 |title=Molen A / Twuyvermolen |website=Molen database |access-date=29 April 2022 |language=nl}}</ref>

Sint Pancras was home to 330 people in 1840.<ref name="plaats"/> It was a separate municipality from 1817 to 1990, when it was merged with [Langedijk](/source/Langedijk).<ref>{{Repertorium Nederlandse Gemeenten}}</ref> In 2022, it became part of the new municipality of [Dijk en Waard](/source/Dijk_en_Waard).<ref name="plaats">{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/sint-pancras |title=Sint Pancras |website=Plaatsengids |access-date=29 April 2022 |language=nl}}</ref>
