The **Singapore Community Shield** (formerly the **Charity Shield**), officially known as the **AIA Community Shield** for sponsorship reasons, is an annual match in [Singapore football](/source/Football_in_Singapore) contested between the champions of the previous [Singapore Premier League](/source/Singapore_Premier_League) season and the [Singapore Cup](/source/Singapore_Cup) winners. If the same team wins both the league and the Singapore Cup, the match is played against the Singapore Premier League runners-up. The fixture is recognised as a competitive [super cup](/source/Super_cup) by [the Football Association](/source/The_Football_Association) and [Asian Football Confederation](/source/Asian_Football_Confederation).

## History

The Charity Shield was first contested in 2008. In the inaugural match, the [Singapore Armed Forces](/source/Warriors_FC) defeated [Home United](/source/Home_United_FC) 5–4 on penalties following a 1–1 draw. The Shield also doubled up as the season's opening fixture in 2014 and remained so for all subsequent editions until 2018.[1]

[Great Eastern](/source/Great_Eastern_Life) and [Yeo's](/source/Yeo_Hiap_Seng) are the co-sponsors for the Community Shield from 2008 to 2016. Great Eastern was the sole sponsor when Yeo's withdrew its sponsorship in 2017.[2]

On 23 February 2019, the [Football Association of Singapore](/source/Football_Association_of_Singapore) (FAS) announced that [AIA Singapore](/source/AIA_Group) as the new title sponsor of the Singapore Premier League and Community Shield as part of a two-year agreement.[3]
