# Sindos

**Sindos** (Greek: Σίνδος; Latin: *Sindus*) is a suburb of [Thessaloniki](/source/Thessaloniki), [Greece](/source/Greece). It is the seat of the municipality of [Delta](/source/Delta,_Thessaloniki). Sindos is home to the main campus of the [Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki](/source/Alexander_Technological_Educational_Institute_of_Thessaloniki) and the Industrial Zone of the city. The community Sindos has an area of 47.248 km2.[1] The population was 9,406 at the 2021 census.[2]

## History

In antiquity, Sindos was noted by [Herodotus](/source/Herodotus) (vii. 123); and [Stephanus of Byzantium](/source/Stephanus_of_Byzantium) as a maritime town of [Mygdonia](/source/Mygdonia_(Europe)) in [Macedonia](/source/Macedonia_(ancient_kingdom)), between [Therme](/source/Therma) and [Chalastra](/source/Chalastra).[3][4]

## Transport

The settlement is severed by [Sindos railway station](/source/Sindos_railway_station), on the [Piraeus–Platy railway](/source/Piraeus%E2%80%93Platy_railway)[5] and [Thessaloniki–Bitola railway](/source/Thessaloniki%E2%80%93Bitola_railway).[6] Sindos - Thessaloniki transportation is facilitated by the lines 52, 80 and 51 of OASTH bus, where the central railway station serves as starting point.[7]
