The **Simplo** was an American [high wheeler](/source/High_wheeler) [automobile](/source/Automobile) manufactured from 1908 until 1909 by the **Cook Motor Vehicle Company** in [St. Louis, Missouri](/source/St._Louis%2C_Missouri).[1]

## History

**Cook Motor Vehicle Company** of St. Louis advertised the **Simplo** as *The biggest automobile value in America*. Several variations were offered; air or water-cooled [2-cylinder](/source/Straight-twin_engine) engines and both solid or [pneumatic tires](/source/Pneumatic_tires). The Simplo featured a [friction transmission](/source/Friction_drive), [double chain drive](/source/Chain_drive) and right-hand [wheel steering](/source/Steering_wheel) on the [runabout](/source/Runabout_(car)), priced at $600, equivalent to $12,696 in 2025.[1][2][3]

In 1909, [roadster](/source/Roadster_(automobile)) and [surrey](/source/Surrey_(carriage)) models were added, but after a year of trying, the Cook Motor Vehicle Company decided to become a multi-[marque](/source/Marque) [automobile dealership](/source/Car_dealership).[1]
