# Simone Santarelli

**Simone Santarelli** (born 7 September 1988) is an Italian [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)).

## Club career

Born in [Rome](/source/Rome), [Lazio](/source/Lazio), Santarelli is a supporter of [S.S. Lazio](/source/S.S._Lazio) and started his career in its youth teams. In 2007–08 season he moved to [Gallipoli](/source/Gallipoli_Calcio)[1] along with [Lucas Correa](/source/Lucas_Correa), [Daniele Greco](/source/Daniele_Greco_(footballer)) and [Matteo Merini](/source/Matteo_Merini). He was the understudy of [Generoso Rossi](/source/Generoso_Rossi) along with [Joachim Spina](/source/Joachim_Spina). He played twice in [Serie C1](/source/Lega_Pro_Prima_Divisione) and played a few matches in [Coppa Italia Serie C](/source/2007%E2%80%9308_Coppa_Italia_Serie_C).[2][3] He returned to Lazio on 1 July 2008 and later frozen by the club. He unable to train along with the first team and the club demanded a high transfer fee.[4] On 5 August 2010 he signed a 1+1 contract with Prima Divisione team [Foggia](/source/U.S._Foggia).[5] Half of the matches was played by Santarelli, shared with [Mihail Ivanov](/source/Mihail_Ivanov).

## International career

Santarelli became an emergency third keeper for the [Italy Under-17 side](/source/Italy_national_under-17_football_team) at [2005 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship](/source/2005_UEFA_European_Under-17_Football_Championship). He replaced injured [Paolo Tornaghi](/source/Paolo_Tornaghi) (himself replaced suspended [Enrico Alfonso](/source/Enrico_Alfonso)) to play for Bronze match, beaten the original third keeper [Alberto Frison](/source/Alberto_Frison)[6] who also injured.[7] He also selected to [2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship](/source/2005_FIFA_U-17_World_Championship).
