He has represented [Auckland](/source/Auckland_Rugby_Football_Union) in the [National Provincial Championship](/source/National_Provincial_Championship_(2006%E2%80%93present)), playing as a [first five-eighth](/source/first_five-eighth). Simon Hickey had signed for the [Hurricanes (rugby union)](/source/Hurricanes_(rugby_union)) for the 2021 season, however ruptured his ACL during pre season ending his season prematurely. This led to him being signed by the [Crusaders (rugby union)](/source/Crusaders_(rugby_union)) for 2022.
