**Simon Buckmaster** (born 15 January 1961) is a [British](/source/Great_Britain) former professional [Grand Prix](/source/Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing) [motorcycle](/source/Motorcycle) racer.[1] He participated in 50 Grands Prix races between [1984](/source/1984_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season) and [1992](/source/1992_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season). His best season was in [1989](/source/1989_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season) when he finished 12th in the Championship.

## Career

Buckmaster made his first Grand Prix appearance at the [British Grand Prix](/source/British_motorcycle_Grand_Prix) at [Silverstone](/source/Silverstone_Circuit) in [1983](/source/1983_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season), but failed to qualify. He returned in [1984](/source/1984_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season) and qualified for the race.[2] Buckmaster became a Grand Prix regular in [1985](/source/1985_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season). Riding a privateer [Suzuki](/source/Suzuki) he made five starts but scored no championship points. In [1986](/source/1986_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season) Buckmaster switched to [Honda](/source/Honda) and competed in all of the races. His best finish was 15th place at the [Dutch TT](/source/Dutch_TT). Buckmaster continued to ride a Honda in [1987 season](/source/1987_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season), starting in 12 races but failing to score any points.

Buckmaster had a career-best season in [1989](/source/1989_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season), when he finished 12th in the Championship. He had a career-best race at the [Nations Grand Prix](/source/1989_Nations_motorcycle_Grand_Prix) at [Misano](/source/Misano_Circuit) which most of the top riders boycotted for safety reasons, allowing Buckmaster to score his highest finish with a second behind [Pierfrancesco Chili](/source/Pierfrancesco_Chili).[3] Buckmaster competed at the highest level of Grand Prix racing until [1992](/source/1992_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season).

Buckmaster was severely injured at the 1993 [Bol d'Or](/source/Bol_d'Or) when he collided with rider Michel Graziano. The crash ended Buckmaster's racing career as his lower left leg had to be amputated.[4]

After his riding career, Buckmaster became a team manager, currently with the PTR Triumph factory team in the [Supersport World Championship](/source/Supersport_World_Championship).[5][6]
