# Simaria Ghat

**Simaria Ghat** ([Maithili](/source/Maithili_language): सिमरिया घाट) is a holy place in [Hinduism](/source/Hinduism) for the sacred bath known as *Ganga Snaana* in the [Mithila region](/source/Mithila_(region)) of [Indian subcontinent](/source/Indian_subcontinent).[1] It is located at the bank of [Ganga river](/source/Ganges) near [Barauni Thermal Power Station](/source/Barauni_Thermal_Power_Station) of the [Begusarai district](/source/Begusarai_district) in [Bihar](/source/Bihar) state of India.[2][3][4] The sacred locations in the vicinity of the Simaria Ghat is called as *Simaria Dhaama*.[5][6] According to legend, it is believed as the *Tapobhumi* of the King Janaka in Mithila. It is said that the [King Janaka](/source/Janaka) started a famous *Kalpavas Mela* here in the [Treta Yuga](/source/Treta_Yuga). The Kalpavas Mela is still very popular among the Hindu adherents in the region. The Hindu devotees from the Mithila region as well as from another parts of the subcontinent come here in the [Kartik](/source/K%C4%81rtika_(month)) month for observing and practicing one month long [Kalpavas](/source/Kalpavas) ritual.[5]
