# Sigalphinae

**Sigalphinae** is a subfamily of [braconid wasps](/source/Braconidae),[1] containing 8 [genera](/source/Genus) and less than 50 described [species](/source/Species).[2]

## Description

Species in the subfamily Sigalphinae are rare but have a worldwide distribution. They can be distinguished from other subfamilies of Braconidae by the combination of the [hindwing](/source/Insect_wing) with vein CUb present, the forewing with vein M + CU tubular and second submarginal cell longer than wide, the [petiole](/source/Petiole_(insect_anatomy)) with a pair of longitudinal [carinae](/source/Glossary_of_entomology_terms), and a [metasoma](/source/Metasoma) that is not laterally compressed.[1]

All species with known hosts are [koinobiont](/source/Koinobiont) endoparasitoids which attack larval [Lepidoptera](/source/Lepidoptera) from the families [Noctuidae](/source/Noctuidae) (most species) and [Geometridae](/source/Geometer_moth) (*[Minanga patriciamadrigalae](/source/Minanga_patriciamadrigalae)*).[2]
