# Shyshaky

**Shyshaky** (Ukrainian: Шишаки; Russian: Шишаки) is a [rural settlement](/source/Populated_places_in_Ukraine#Rural_settlements) in [Poltava Oblast](/source/Poltava_Oblast), Ukraine. It was formerly the administrative center of [Shyshaky Raion](/source/Shyshaky_Raion) until 2020, but now administrated within [Myrhorod Raion](/source/Myrhorod_Raion). Shyshaky hosts the administration of [Shyshaky settlement hromada](/source/Shyshaky_settlement_hromada), one of the [hromadas](/source/Hromada) of Ukraine.[1] It is located on the left bank of the [Psel](/source/Psel_(river)), a left tributary of the Dnieper. ## History

In the 19th century, Shyshaky was part of Shyshaky [volost](/source/Volost), [Mirgorodsky Uyezd](/source/Mirgorodsky_Uyezd), [Poltava Governorate](/source/Poltava_Governorate).[2]

Until 26 January 2024, Shyshaky was designated as an [urban-type settlement](/source/Urban-type_settlement). Also on that day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Shyshaky became a rural settlement.[3]

### Transportation

The settlement has access to the [Highway M03](/source/Highway_M03_(Ukraine)), connecting it to [Kyiv](/source/Kyiv) and [Kharkiv](/source/Kharkiv) via [Poltava](/source/Poltava). It also has access to [Velyki Sorochyntsi](/source/Velyki_Sorochyntsi) and [Myrhorod](/source/Myrhorod).

The closest railway station, [Yareski](/source/Yareski_railway_station), iz about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Shyshaky and on the railway line connecting Poltava and [Romodan](/source/Romodan) via Myrhorod. There is both local and long-distance passenger traffic.
