# Shujun

Chinese god of farming and cultivation

**Shujun** ([Chinese](/source/Chinese_language): 叔均; [pinyin](/source/Pinyin): *Shūjūn*) is a Chinese god of farming and cultivation, also known as **Yijun** and **Shangjun**. Alternatively he is a legendary [culture hero](/source/Culture_hero) of ancient times, who was in the [family tree of ancient Chinese emperors](/source/Family_tree_of_ancient_Chinese_emperors) descended from the [Yellow Emperor](/source/Yellow_Emperor) (Huangdi). According to the various sources, Shujun was the son of [Di Jun](/source/Di_Jun) (Emperor Jun) or else [Houji's](/source/Houji) son or nephew (fathered by Houji's younger brother Taixi).[1] Shujun is one of the individuals named in [Chinese mythology](/source/Chinese_mythology) as helping to found the practice of [agriculture in China](/source/Agriculture_in_China), along with Houji, Di Jun, [Shennong](/source/Shennong), and others. Shujun is specially credited with inventing the use of a [draft](/source/Working_animal) animal of the [bovine family](/source/Bovine) to pull a [plow](/source/Plow) to turn the soil prior to planting.
