# Short Line Subdivision (Ohio)

The **Short Line Subdivision** is a [railroad](/source/Railroad) line owned by [CSX Transportation](/source/CSX_Transportation) in the U.S. state of [Ohio](/source/Ohio). The line runs from a point northeast of downtown [Cleveland](/source/Cleveland,_OH) south and southwest to [Berea](/source/Berea,_Ohio)[1] along a former [New York Central Railroad](/source/New_York_Central_Railroad) line.

At its east end, the Short Line Subdivision merges with the [Cleveland Terminal Subdivision](/source/Cleveland_Terminal_Subdivision) towards [Buffalo, New York](/source/Buffalo,_New_York). Its west end is at [Berea](/source/Berea,_Ohio), where the [Greenwich Subdivision](/source/Greenwich_Subdivision) continues southwest towards [Columbus](/source/Columbus,_OH), meeting lines to [Chicago](/source/Chicago) and [Indianapolis](/source/Indianapolis,_IN) along the way. The Short Line Subdivision has a junction with the [Cleveland Subdivision](/source/Cleveland_Subdivision) south of downtown Cleveland.

## History

The line east of the curve near [Brook Park](/source/Brook_Park,_Ohio) (Short Line Junction) was built by the [Cleveland Short Line Railway](/source/Cleveland_Short_Line_Railway) and opened in 1910 and 1912;[2] the rest from Short Line Junction southwest to Berea was opened in 1850 by the [Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad](/source/Cleveland,_Columbus_and_Cincinnati_Railroad).[3] Through mergers, leases, and takeovers, the lines became part of the [New York Central Railroad](/source/New_York_Central_Railroad) and [Conrail](/source/Conrail). When Conrail was broken up in 1999, the current Short Line Subdivision was assigned to CSX.
