# Shiro's Story

British online series (2018)

***Shiro's Story*** is a three-part [YouTube](/source/YouTube) series released in 2018, written, directed and narrated through the medium of [rap](/source/Rap_music) by British rapper [Rapman](/source/Rapman). It stars [Joivan Wade](/source/Joivan_Wade) as Shiro, [Percelle Ascott](/source/Percelle_Ascott) as his best friend, Kyle, and features appearances from [Konan](/source/Krept_and_Konan), [Deno](/source/Deno_(singer)), [Ashley Walters](/source/Ashley_Walters), [Headie One](/source/Headie_One), [Not3s](/source/Not3s) and [Cadet](/source/Cadet_(rapper)). Themes of betrayal, love and [London gang](/source/London_gang) rivalry play throughout, but there is no glamourisation of violence.

The series was shot [guerrilla-style](/source/Guerrilla_filmmaking) on a budget of £3,000 and had been seen 7.2 million times as of early November 2019.[1] The series as a whole has a run time of 45 minutes. Part 2 of the series won [GRM Daily](/source/GRM_Daily)'s Video of the Year award in 2018.[2]

Rapman subsequently signed a contract with [Island Records](/source/Island_Records) and [Jay-Z](/source/Jay-Z)'s [ROC Nation](/source/Roc_Nation),[3] and in late 2018, [Paramount Pictures](/source/Paramount_Pictures) and [BBC Films](/source/BBC_Films) bought the rights for his [feature film](/source/Feature_film) *[Blue Story](/source/Blue_Story)*.[4][5][6]
