# Shepherd Murape

**Shepherd Murape** (born 26 July 1949) is a Zimbabwean [football](/source/Association_football) manager and former player manages the [Zimbabwe national team](/source/Zimbabwe_national_football_team).

## Career

A [centre-back](/source/Centre-back)[2] or [midfielder](/source/Midfielder),[1] Murape played club football for [Harare](/source/Harare) side [Dynamos F.C.](/source/Dynamos_F.C.) and for the [Rhodesia national team](/source/Rhodesia_national_football_team).[3]

In 1976, he became a player-manager for Dynamos, and helped lead the club to several league titles.[4] He went on to manage newly formed [Black Rhinos F.C.](/source/Black_Rhinos_F.C.) in 1983.[5]

Murape has had stints with [QwaQwa Stars F.C.](/source/Free_State_Stars_F.C.), [Real Rovers F.C.](/source/Real_Rovers_F.C.), [AmaZulu](/source/AmaZulu_F.C.), [Moroka Swallows](/source/Moroka_Swallows_F.C.), [Black Leopards](/source/Black_Leopards_F.C.), [Orlando Pirates](/source/Orlando_Pirates_F.C.) and [Manning Rangers](/source/Manning_Rangers_F.C.) in South Africa.[6][7] He led [Blue Waters](/source/Blue_Waters_F.C.) to the Namibian league title in 2004.[8]

Murape managed the Zimbabwe national team during 1981.[9] In 1994, he became the first person to manage [Namibia national team](/source/Namibia_national_football_team) following its independence.[10]

Murape was appointed manager of South African [National First Division](/source/National_First_Division) club [Magesi](/source/Magesi_F.C.) in October 2016.[11]
