# Sheltam

**Sheltam** is a locomotive hire and repair company that undertakes complete operating contracts and maintenance contracts, based in [Gqeberha](/source/Gqeberha), [South Africa](/source/South_Africa). By the year 2000, Sheltam locomotives were operating at Randfontein Estates Gold Mine in [Gauteng](/source/Gauteng), and in [Mpumalanga](/source/Mpumalanga) at Douglas and Vandyksdrift Collieries and at SAPPI, Ngodwana. They also operated on [Spoornet](/source/Spoornet)’s [Newcastle](/source/Newcastle,_KwaZulu-Natal)-[Utrecht](/source/Utrecht,_KwaZulu-Natal) branch in [KwaZulu-Natal](/source/KwaZulu-Natal) and on [Kei Rail](/source/Kei_Rail) in the [Eastern Cape](/source/Eastern_Cape). Outside South Africa they operate on the [Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway](/source/Beitbridge_Bulawayo_Railway) (BBR), [NLL](/source/NLPI) and [Railway Systems of Zambia](/source/Railway_Systems_of_Zambia) (RSZ) lines through [Zimbabwe](/source/Zimbabwe) and [Zambia](/source/Zambia) and in the [Democratic Republic of the Congo](/source/Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo).[1][2]
