'''Shellpot Park''' was a [trolley park](/source/trolley_park) located in [Brandywine Hundred, Delaware](/source/Brandywine_Hundred%2C_Delaware) that operated from 1893 until 1934. The park was developed by the Wilmington City Railway Company after extending the trolley lines to [Shellpot Creek](/source/Shellpot_Creek) near the outskirts of the city.<ref name="Memory">{{cite news|last=R.V.L.|title=Shellpot Park - Of Happy Memory|newspaper=The Sunday Star|date=Mar 2, 1952|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=dbMmAAAAIBAJ&sjid=5wEGAAAAIBAJ&pg=4460%2C258017}}</ref> In its early years, Shellpot Park (and the adjacent Malin's Grove) was little more than a wooded lake and a place to picnic. At the peak of its popularity, the park also featured a miniature railroad, carousel, and roller coaster.<ref>{{cite book|last=Miller|first=George|title=A Delaware Album, 1900-1930: Cultural Studies of Delaware and the Eastern Shore|year=2011|publisher=Rowman & Littlefield|isbn=1611490448}}</ref>

The carousel, built in 1916 by the [Philadelphia Toboggan Company](/source/Philadelphia_Toboggan_Company), had twenty-eight jumping horses, eighteen stationary horses, two chariots, and two [Wurlitzer](/source/Wurlitzer) band organs.<ref>{{cite book |title=Amusement Parks of Pennsylvania|author=Futrell, Jim|publisher=Stackpole Books|year=2002|isbn=0811726711|page=68}}</ref> The roller coaster, also designed by PTC, was added in 1925 and featured a 65-foot vertical drop. (The tallest coaster of its era, at 100 feet, [Cyclone](/source/Cyclone_(Revere_Beach)), was built the same year at [Revere Beach](/source/Revere_Beach).)<ref>{{cite book |title=The Incredible Scream Machine: A History of the Roller Coaster|author=Cartmell, Robert|publisher=Popular Press|year=1987|isbn=0879723424|page=218}}</ref>

As interest in the park waned after the 1920s, the park added an open-air arena for boxing events. In 1932, the carousel was sold to [Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom](/source/Dorney_Park_%26_Wildwater_Kingdom); it was subsequently destroyed in a 1983 fire at that park.<ref>{{cite web|title=Carrousels|url=http://dp-201105-www.dorneypark-com.cfpt2.cedarfair.com/public/news/history/carrousels.cfm|publisher=Cedar Fair Entertainment Company}}</ref> In 1934, a fire along the railway destroyed most of the remaining attractions, and Shellpot Park closed. The former dance pavilion, converted into a roller rink, was eventually torn down in 1936.<ref name="Memory"/>
