# Shelley Solmes

**Shelley Solmes** is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) journalist and radio broadcaster.[1]

Solmes was born in Toronto.[2] She studied journalism at [Carleton University](/source/Carleton_University) and the [University of British Columbia](/source/University_of_British_Columbia) and worked as a reporter and feature writer for the *[Vancouver Sun](/source/Vancouver_Sun)* before joining [CBC Radio](/source/CBC_Radio), where she was associated with arts and [classical music](/source/European_classical_music) programming such as *OnStage*, *Take Five* and *Here's to You*.[3] *Take Five* won a CBC Award for Programming Excellence in 2004.[2]

Solmes is also an amateur classical pianist, who has studied under [Anton Kuerti](/source/Anton_Kuerti), [Nadia Strycek](/source/Nadia_Strycek) and [Katharina Wolpe](/source/Katharina_Wolpe).
