**Sheilla Tavares de Castro** (born 1 July 1983) is a Brazilian former [volleyball](/source/Volleyball) player who represented Brazil at the [2008 Summer Olympics](/source/2008_Summer_Olympics) and the [2012 Summer Olympics](/source/2012_Summer_Olympics). On both occasions the [Brazilian national team](/source/Brazil_women's_national_volleyball_team) won the gold medal. She also played the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics), when Brazil placed fifth. She retired on April 9, 2022.[1]

## Career

Castro played as opposite in the Brazilian national team and with [Molico/Osasco](/source/Osasco_Voleibol_Clube). She made her debut for the national team against [Colombia](/source/Colombia).

Castro was named "Most valuable player" at the [2006 FIVB World Grand Prix](/source/2006_FIVB_World_Grand_Prix) in [Reggio Calabria](/source/Reggio_Calabria), [Italy](/source/Italy), and at the [2009 FIVB World Grand Prix](/source/2009_FIVB_World_Grand_Prix) in [Tokyo](/source/Tokyo), Japan, with Brazil winning the gold medal both times.

At the [2007 Pan American Games](/source/2007_Pan_American_Games), Castro won the silver medal alongside fellow players of the national team.

At the [2011 Pan-American Cup](/source/2011_Women's_Pan-American_Volleyball_Cup), Castro was given the "Most valuable player" award,[2] also winning the gold medal with her national team.[3]

Castro was part of the national team who won the gold medal at the [2011 Pan American Games](/source/Volleyball_at_the_2011_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%93_Women's_tournament) held in [Guadalajara](/source/Guadalajara), [Mexico](/source/Mexico).[4]

Playing with [Sollys Nestlé Osasco](/source/Osasco_Voleibol_Clube), Castro won the gold medal and the "Most valuable player" and "Best scorer" awards in the [2012 FIVB Club World Championship](/source/2012_FIVB_Women's_Club_World_Championship) held in [Doha](/source/Doha), [Qatar](/source/Qatar).[5]

Castro won the "Best opposite" award and the gold medal with her National Team in the [2013 South American Championship](/source/2013_Women's_South_American_Volleyball_Championship) held in [Ica, Peru](/source/Ica%2C_Peru).[6] Castro won the silver medal in the [2014 FIVB Club World Championship](/source/2014_FIVB_Volleyball_Women's_Club_World_Championship) after her club lost 0–3 to the Russian [Dinamo Kazan](/source/WVC_Dynamo_Kazan) in the championship match.[7]

Castro played with her national team,[8] winning the bronze at the [2014 World Championship](/source/2014_FIVB_Volleyball_Women's_World_Championship)[9] when her team defeated Italy 3–2 in the bronze medal match.[10] She won the Best Opposite Spiker in the [2016 FIVB World Grand Prix](/source/2016_FIVB_Volleyball_World_Grand_Prix#Awards).[11]

After finishing the [2016 Olympic Games](/source/2016_Olympic_Games) in 5th place, Castro announced her retirement from the national team.[12] In 2019, without playing for three years even for clubs, she decided to return to the national team and played the [2019 FIVB World Cup](/source/2019_FIVB_Volleyball_Women's_World_Cup) and the [2019 South American Championship](/source/2019_Women's_South_American_Volleyball_Championship).[13][14]
