**Shazand County** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): شهرستان شازند)[a] is in [Markazi](/source/Markazi_province) province, Iran. Its capital is the city of [Shazand](/source/Shazand).[4]

## History

After the 2006 National Census, [Kazzaz Rural District](/source/Kazzaz_Rural_District) was created in the [Central District](/source/Central_District_(Shazand_County)), and [Qarah Kahriz](/source/Qarah_Kahriz_Rural_District) and [Kuhsar](/source/Kuhsar_Rural_District_(Shazand_County)) Rural Districts were separated from it in the establishment of [Qarah Kahriz District](/source/Qarah_Kahriz_District).[5] The village of [Mohajeran](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mohajeran,_Markazi&action=edit&redlink=1) was elevated to the status of a city.[6] After the 2011 census, the village of Hafteh and Bazneh was elevated to city status as [Shahbaz](/source/Shahbaz%2C_Iran).[7]

In 2024, the city of [Mohajeran](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mohajeran,_Markazi&action=edit&redlink=1) and 17 villages were separated from [Zalian District](/source/Zalian_District) in the formation of [Mohajeran District](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mohajeran_District&action=edit&redlink=1), including the new [Khosbijan](/source/Khosbijan_Rural_District) and [Mohajeran](/source/Mohajeran_Rural_District) Rural Districts.[8]

## Demographics

### Population

At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 118,789 in 31,228 households.[9] The following census in 2011 counted 117,746 people in 35,084 households.[10] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 117,571 in 38,214 households.[2]
