# Shaw Wilson

**John Devakumar 'Shaw' Wilson** (born 4 September 1944) is a [Sri Lankan](/source/Sri_Lankan_people) educator and former first-class [cricketer](/source/Cricket).

Wilson was born at [Jaffna](/source/Jaffna) in September 1944. He was educated in [Colombo](/source/Colombo) at [Royal College](/source/Royal_College,_Colombo), where he captained the school cricket team. From there, he went up to [Senate of Serampore College](/source/Senate_of_Serampore_College_(University)) in India, where he obtained his [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree). He then studied for his [master's degree](/source/Master's_degree) at the [University of London](/source/University_of_London) and [Princeton Theological Seminary](/source/Princeton_Theological_Seminary). Wilson spent time as a research student at [Mansfield College](/source/Mansfield_College,_Oxford) at the [University of Oxford](/source/University_of_Oxford).[1] While studying at Oxford, he made a single appearance in [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) for [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club) against [Nottinghamshire](/source/Nottinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [Oxford](/source/University_Parks#Cricket_ground) in 1977.[2] Batting twice in the match, he was dismissed for 18 runs in the Oxford first innings by [Peter Hacker](/source/Peter_Hacker), while in their second innings he was dismissed [without scoring](/source/Duck_(cricket)) by [Bob White](/source/Bob_White_(cricketer)).[3]

Once Wilson had completed his studies, he returned to Sri Lanka to become a schoolteacher. He taught at [Trinity College](/source/Trinity_College,_Kandy) in [Kandy](/source/Kandy), where he was also curator of the college's [Asgiriya cricket ground](/source/Asgiriya_Stadium), which became Sri Lanka's second [Test](/source/Test_cricket) venue in 1983 when [Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lanka_national_cricket_team) played [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team) there.[1] He later taught at several schools in Australia, before returning to Sri Lanka to teach. In 2015, he became the vice-principal of [Wesley College, Colombo](/source/Wesley_College,_Colombo). He was appointed vice principal of Trinity College in April 2017.[1]
