**Shaul Gutman** ([Hebrew](/source/Hebrew_language): שאול גוטמן; born 9 September 1945) is an Israeli academic and former politician.

## Biography

Born in [Be'erot Yitzhak](/source/Be'erot_Yitzhak) during the [Mandate era](/source/Mandatory_Palestine), Gutman grew up in [Rehovot](/source/Rehovot) and studied at the [Technion](/source/Technion_%E2%80%93_Israel_Institute_of_Technology) and [Berkeley](/source/University_of_California%2C_Berkeley), before returning to the Technion as a professor.

In [1992](/source/1992_Israeli_legislative_election) he was elected to the Knesset on the [Moledet](/source/Moledet) list. However, he left the party on 24 July 1995 to establish [Yamin Yisrael](/source/Yamin_Yisrael).[1] He lost his seat when the party failed to cross the electoral threshold in the [1996 elections](/source/1996_Israeli_legislative_election).
