# Sharon Slater

**Sharon Slater** is an Irish historian and author. Her work primarily focuses on the history of [Limerick](/source/Limerick), Ireland using the name Limerick's Life.[1] Following a mentorship from [Frank Prendergast](/source/Frank_Prendergast) she attended the [University of Limerick](/source/University_of_Limerick) and received an MA in Local History.[2]

She is currently Historian-in-Residence at [Ormston House](/source/Ormston_House).[3] She writes for the [Limerick Post](/source/Limerick_Post).[4] She previously wrote for the [Limerick Leader](/source/Limerick_Leader) (2018), *Limerick Life Newspaper* (2016-2017), *Limerick Magazine* (2015-2016).[5] She has appeared as a history expert on television and radio including [Creedon's Shannon](/source/Creedon's_Shannon), [Doc on One](/source/Doc_on_One), and [RTÉ lyric fm](/source/RT%C3%89_lyric_fm).[6][7][8]

In 2018, she was recognised with a mayoral reception, by Councillor Sean Lynch, Mayor of the [Metropolitan District of Limerick](/source/Limerick_City_and_County_Council), for her work to promote Limerick's history.[9] She was awarded the National Heritage Hero Award for 2017 from [Heritage Council](/source/Heritage_Council_(Ireland)) Ireland.[10] In 2015, she was awarded a Limerick Person of the Month for her contribution to the history and heritage of Limerick city.[11] In June 2022, she was appointed [Limerick Pride](/source/Limerick_Pride) 2022 Grand Marshal.[12]

In 2024, Slater wrote the foreword for The Ballad of Thomas Patrick Downing. The book, written by Des Ryan, tells the story of a Limerick man who fought and died with General Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.[13] Her work on the life of Hollywood Star [Constance Smith](/source/Constance_Smith) culminated in a documentary on [TG4](/source/TG4),[14] a memorial star by artist Mary Conroy, and play by [Ann Blake](/source/Ann_Blake) and Joanne Ryan.[8]
