**Sharon Riis** (1947 - May 20, 2016) was a Canadian novelist, short story writer and screenwriter.[1]

She was nominated for the [Books in Canada First Novel Award](/source/Amazon.ca_First_Novel_Award) in 1976 for her [debut novel](/source/Debut_novel) *The True Story of Ida Johnson*, published by Women's Press.[2] Her second novel, *Midnight Twilight Tourist Zone*, was published in 1989 by [Douglas & McIntyre](/source/Douglas_%26_McIntyre).[1] Riis also published short stories in various Canadian literary magazines.

She won the [Genie Award](/source/Genie_Award) for [Best Adapted Screenplay](/source/Genie_Award_for_Best_Screenplay) at the [23rd Genie Awards](/source/23rd_Genie_Awards) for *[Savage Messiah](/source/Savage_Messiah_(2002_film))*.[3] She was also nominated for [Best Original Screenplay](/source/Genie_Award_for_Best_Screenplay) at the [4th Genie Awards](/source/4th_Genie_Awards) for *[Latitude 55°](/source/Latitude_55%C2%B0)*, which she cowrote with [John Juliani](/source/John_Juliani),[4] and at the [8th Genie Awards](/source/8th_Genie_Awards) for *[Loyalties](/source/Loyalties_(1986_film))*, which she cowrote with [Anne Wheeler](/source/Anne_Wheeler).[5]

In addition, she was a writer and [story editor](/source/Story_editor) for the television series *[Bliss](/source/Bliss_(Canadian_TV_series))* and *[Wapos Bay: The Series](/source/Wapos_Bay%3A_The_Series)*, and wrote the [television films](/source/Television_film) *Change of Heart* and *[The Wake](/source/The_Wake_(1986_film))*.[1]

Riis died on May 20, 2016.[6]
