# Shane Sullivan

**Shane Stephen Sullivan** (born 7 September 1945) is an Australian former international [rugby union](/source/Rugby_union) player.[1]

A Brisbane native, Sullivan completed his secondary schooling at [St Joseph's College, Nudgee](/source/St_Joseph's_College,_Nudgee), where he played 1st XV rugby in his last year, before continuing his studies at the [University of Queensland](/source/University_of_Queensland).[2]

Sullivan, a specialist tighthead prop, played for Brisbane club Brothers and made his Queensland state debut in 1968. He was one of six Brothers players to earn [Wallabies](/source/Australia_national_rugby_union_team) selection for the [1969 tour of South Africa](/source/1969_Australia_rugby_union_tour_of_South_Africa), preferred over the already capped [Ross Turnbull](/source/Ross_Turnbull_(rugby_union)).[3] Over the course of the tour, Sullivan started 11 of a possible 24 matches for the Wallabies, while sitting out the Test matches, with [Roy Prosser](/source/Roy_Prosser) and [Jim Roxburgh](/source/Jim_Roxburgh_(rugby_union)) the favoured combination.[2]

While studying medicine in England, Sullivan competed in the Hospitals Cup for [St Bartholomew's Hospital](/source/St_Bartholomew's_Hospital).[2]

Sullivan was a general practitioner in [Toowoomba](/source/Toowoomba), Queensland.[2]
